Director Tony Leondis and writer Chris Mckenna speak about Igor at New York Comic-Con!
A videogame based on Exodus Film Group’s 'Igor' will bow alongside the toon next October.
Exodus Film Group has struck a unique vidgame licensing deal for its upcoming toon "Igor" that involves an established publisher and an outside financier.
Interactive Game Group, a new packaging company founded by former Atari topper Frederic Chesnais, has acquired interactive rights from Exodus to "Igor," which will be distribbed by Weinstein Co. through MGM next October.
IGG has signed up Legacy Interactive, which previously made games based on "Law & Order" and "The Apprentice," to publish the "Igor" vidgame in North America.
Legacy plans to produce an "Igor" game aimed at family and casual auds for Nintendo's DS and Wii, PC and mobile devices. Because it's seeking to put the game out along with the pic, Legacy said it won't have time to develop a game for Sony's PlayStation 2 and 3 or Microsoft's Xbox 360.
Deal is the first for IGG, which is aiming to set up several vidgames in the next year.
"We handle financing, find the publishers and basically facilitate the whole transaction," said Chesnais, who noted that while his company is funding the game, production will be left entirely to Legacy.
A rep said that Legacy hopes to sign up voice talent from the movie, which includes Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Jennifer Coolidge and John Cusack, for the game but hasn't yet struck any deals.
Mistic Software is developing "Igor" for the DS. Legacy hasn't yet tapped developers for other platforms.
IGG is still searching for a publisher to release the "Igor" game overseas.
Even though a Weinstein Bros. production for CG Animation says low budget to me
and skimping on story and animation (Hoodwinked anyone?), this movie looks really promising! Maybe it's because Tony Leondis actually comes from story boarding for traditional animation? Maybe it's because it's Exodus Film Group who actually produced the movie and the Weinstein's are handling just the distribution. Either way, I look forwrad to both the story and animation on this one.
